The Department of Computers and Systems has number of academic members who work in several research fields; Cloud Computing, Machine Learning, Multimedia Communication, Information Security, etc... providing the consultation and training for both the graduate and the undergraduate engineers in these fields. The department provides the needed help and support for all other NTI Departments by number of professional engineers and technicians. The technical team members are grouped into three main parties; the first one is responsible for maintaining the NTI networking that connect all departments and their equipments, providing the needed administration to keep work sustain and secured. The second party is responsible for the development and maintenance of the NTI website, providing several open source based solutions to facilitate both administrative and educational work. The third party is responsible for designing and maintaining the needed database applications that automate the managerial and administrative work in the institute. In addition to professional members that work in the field of developing the electronic contents and e-learning courses.

 
 

Department Laboratories

 

OPNET System.

OPNET is a graphically based package used to analyze and predict the performance of networks ranging from simple links to complex enterprise-wide systems. Real communication and computer networks are presented by a library of objects and a set of parameters that are easily adjusted to match the real-world. National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority -NTRA (NTRA) have been established a project to serve Egyptian researchers from different Universities and institutes to benefit from the graphical based OPNET package. The simulator is hosted by National Telecommunication Institute (NTI), which provides all necessary technical support and training via professional team members.

E-learning center.

This center is equipped with the state-of-the-art infrastructure for developing interactive distance learning, managing and hosting the Third Party Education and Training Programs. The main part of this center is the content development lab that supports the creation of the e-Learning content materials such as the Computer Based Training and the Web Based Distance Learning programs using the Learning Management System and the editing devices with the help of high performance workstations.

IT Support center.

IT support center dealing professionally with the most common technical problems associated with a PC and introducing help to install, configure, upgrade and troubleshoot both hardware and software.

Database warehouse.

Design database schema, develop customized solutions, provide consultancy and maintenance as well as regular reporting and administration.

Open source solutions.

The term "open source software" that was the most popular in the earlier stages of development was expanded later to emphasize the importance of freedom; hence "free open source software". To distinguish the two types of freedom, some later used the term "free/libre open source software", highlighting the fact that the software was available free of charge on the one hand, and that one was free to change the programs on the other.

Networking and Systems.

Several powerful networked servers are dedicated for Intranet and Internet applications providing the necessary network design and management, maintaining the network secure and efficient. Security Solution is conducted via standalone devices and integrated features for Access Control, Traffic Inspection, Data Encryption, Reporting and Defense mechanisms. Network-Based Intrusion Prevention System checks the incoming traffic for malicious code and a two-stage Firewall filters the traffic and redirects it based on the access control rules defined by the enterprise security policy. Traffic is transferred between multiple zones by applying the rules of the security policy as defined in the firewalls. Additional control can be realized by means of the Access Control List rules that may be defined for the core switches.

Multimedia Interactive Labs.

These laboratories provide the interactive multimedia system environment to increase the efficiency of the educational process by using class support equipments such as the LCD projectors, Electric roll screens, Interactive Pen Displays, Dome cameras, controllers' set-up for class animation capturing.
