During the activities of the 14th round of the Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers meeting held on July, 1st 2010, Egypt has been unanimously re-elected as a member in the executive bureau, and also as Vice President of the Executive Bureau, in the Sanaa, Yemen.
The Egyptian delegation, led by Advisor to Minister of Communications and Information Technology on International Cooperation, Dr. Ahmed El-Sherbini, had also attended the 28th Ordinary Round of the Council's Executive Bureau meeting held earlier in the Yemeni capital.
The delegation involved Vice Chairman of Egyptian National Post Organization (ENPO), Dr. Sherif Battisha and representatives from Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), National Telecommunications Institute (NTI) and National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA).
Among the issues discussed during the meeting was means of promoting the Arab strategy of information and communication technology (ICT) and the projects related to it. On top of these projects is the country code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) and acquiring the right of registering domain names suffixed "Arab" through Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Moreover, the meeting discussed the coordination of an Arab stance at international conferences such as the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference and the Interment Governance Forum (IGF).
In addition, the meeting tackled the authorization of Arab Permanent Postal Commission results and those of the Permanent Telecommunications and Information Committee and its task forces.
The new Council's Executive Bureau has been formed during the meeting for another two years.
Dr. El-Sherbini noted that the consentaneous reelection of Egypt reflects the recognition of the state's role in this vital field as well as its efforts throughout the past years in supporting the collaborative Arab endeavors in ICT.
The Egyptian delegation, Dr. El-Sherbini added, has succeeded in holding talks and coordinating with Arab ministers and heads of delegations during and before the council meeting.
Dr. Kamel has represented Egypt as the Vice Chairman of the Executive Bureau in previous rounds. He was also a chairman in two other rounds.
The Executive Bureau consists of eight countries; three of them are organized based on presidency (i.e. the previous, current, and coming president countries). The countries are Qatar, Libya and Iraq.
Three other countries are arranged alphabetically as follows: Algeria, Djibouti and Tunisia plus two elected council member countries.
Dr. El-Sherbini pointed out that MCIT and Dr. Kamel give a special attention to common Arab activities and appreciate the trust endorsed in Egypt by the Arab ministers to maintain its focal and efficient role in the development of ICT sector in the Arab world.
