Dr. Kamel Witnesses Graduation of Fourth Batch of African Engineers from NTI.

Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Tarek Kamel, in the presence of National Telecommunications Institute (NTI) Director Dr. Ahmed El-Sherbini, witnessed today the graduation ceremony of the fourth batch of the “ICT Experts in Africa” training program organized in Cairo parallel to ITU Telecom Africa 2008.

The training program, held from 29^th of April to 15^th of May 2008, aims at building-up the African engineers potentials and providing them with technical and theoretical knowledge and skills that are likely to help them perform more efficiently.

The two-week program is a joint collaboration between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) and the NTI.

Twenty-four trainees from 19 African countries attended the training sessions; the biggest number of trainees since the training program first kicked off four years ago.

This year’s program tackled: switching technologies, GSM, VoIP and other ICT-related fields. The trainees also visited key Egyptian telecom facilities, institutes, the Smart Village and ICT companies.

Minister Kamel said that organizing these training programs in Egypt reflects the State’s interest in the African aspect as well as its leading role in developing human resources in the ICT sector.

Dr. Kamel added that holding such courses in Egypt comes as a response to the high turnout on the African students’ parties and their eagerness to serve the African development causes in this domain.
